Quo Bootleg LPs |
1978 LIVE IN LYON (HFQ 227)
Side 1 - Junior's Wailing / Backwater / Just Take Me / Is There A Better Way /
In My Chair
Side 2 - Little Lady / Most Of The Time / Forty-Five Hundred Times
Recorded 'live' at the Palais d'Hiver, Lyon, France on the 22nd. December
1976. "Live In Lyon" was a British bootleg which first appeared in 1978. The
quality was reasonable and the highlight "In My Chair". The track listing was
the same as side one and two of the official "Live" album, which was, of course,
recorded only two months earlier. Unusual for a live album, "Live In Lyon" had
track separation with the 'chat' between each song being faded out. The version
of "Forty-Five Hundred Times" was edited, being faded out towards the end of the
song. The colour sleeve had a 'live' picture of the band on the front and an off
stage photograph on the rear.

Side 4 - Big Fat Mama / Don't Waste My Time / Roadhouse Blues
Recorded 'live' at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle, Australia on the 18th. July
1978. A very good quality American bootleg. It was recorded on the first night
of Quo's 1978 Australian tour, hence the album's title. The highlights were "You
Don't Own Me", an extended version of "Rockers Rollin'" and "Rockin' All Over
The World". The album first appeared in the U.K. in 1979 and came with a sleeve
listing the Australian tour dates, together with an off stage photograph. "First
Night Stand" was later re-pressed by the Belgian bootleg company Raven (SQ 6891
{58 - 3032}). The re-pressing had a 'live' black & white photograph of Francis
Rossi on the plain white sleeve. The Bakersfield release was later re-pressed in
Mexico as a single album. Track listing was Side 1: You Don't Own Me / Hold You
Back / Backwater / Is There A Better Way - Side 2: Dirty Water / Big Fat Mama /
Don't Waste My Time / Roadhouse Blues. The sleeve design was copied from the
"Live At The N.E.C." album.

Recorded 'live' at the N.E.C., Birmingham on the 14th. May 1982.
Czechoslovakian bootleg which appeared in the U.K. in 1983. Surprisingly, since
the concert was broadcasted in stereo on the Radio, the quality was only
reasonable. The tracks on side one and two have, of course, been officially
released as the third album of the "From The Makers Of..." set and "Dirty Water"
was the 'b' side of the "Caroline" live single. The version of "Down Down" has
also been officially released as the additional track on the 12" "Caroline" live
single. "Over The Edge" included the Quo rendition of the National Anthem from
the N.E.C. concert, which was not included on the "From The Makers Of..." live
album. The colourful sleeve design was based on the planetary system.

Neighbour, Neighbour 2:34 # / Bird Dog 2:16 #
Bootleg album made up of B.B.C. radio sessions (most of which were officially
issued in 2003). The tracks marked # were credited as 'The Spectres' and were
recorded on the 6th. September 1966. The two versions of "Bloodhound" differed
in that the organ was more prominent on the The Spectres' recording. "Bird Dog"
was a cover version of the Everly Brothers' hit of 1958, "Gloria" a Van Morrison
song and "Bloodhound" was originally by the Dowliner Sect. "Thing's Get Better"
was written by Floyd / Cropper and issued as a single by Eddie Floyd in 1967.
The remaining songs included on the album, with the exception of "Need Your
Love" and "Mean Girl", were similar to the officially released recordings. The
version of "Need Your Love" featured Roy Lynes on vocals and the recording of
"Mean Girl" was an later version of the song, being quicker and with the lead &
rhythm guitars higher in the mix. Although the sleeve claimed that "Early Status
Quo" was a 'Fan Club' issue, it was a bootleg believed to have been pressed in
West Germany. The album first appeared in the U.K. in 1985 and was pressed in
red vinyl. The front sleeve had a 'live' picture of the band from 1979, with the
back sleeve simply showing the track listing. Two hundred copies were made.
